I also came across the word ‘neoteny’, which means ‘remaining young’. It’s something which we as humans have developed into a survival trait. Other animals, when they are young, have a curiosity about the World, a flexibility of response, and an ability to play which they lose as they grow up. As a species we have retained these.

This is the blog of of an avatar in second life. My intro blog entry tells about how Pais Kidd came to be.

I am really of two minds when it comes to what I have to say about second life. One is talking about my life there, events, people, and so forth. The other perspective is that of the person behind the avatar – I have may thoughts on what makes the it interesting, the psychology of the place, the social and cultural implications, and the potential future directions for the technology.

So far, I have decided that the voice being presented here needs to be mostly that of Pais as he lives in his world. I expect his readers will be primarily friends of Pais and therefore to speak about the meta-musings would simply tear down the proverbial fourth wall of the world. Even though, I can’t help to put in some of the voice and thoughts of the human behind Pais into the content.
